M.Tech in Production Engineering & System Technology
Production engineering is a professional practice of manufacturing technology with management science. The goal is to accomplish the manufacturing processes effectively and efficiently. The curriculum of Production engineering encompasses the contents with engineering materials, casting technology, machining technology, physical and mechanical joining processes, tool enigeering, metrology, manufacturing systems, automation and Rapid manufacturing .In a typical industry, once the design is realized, production engineering concepts regarding work-study, ergonomics, operation research, tooling, manufacturing management, materials management, production planning, transportaion etc., play important roles in efficient production processes. These deal with integrated design and efficient planning of the entire manufacturing system, which is becoming increasingly challenging with the emergence of sophisticated production methods and control systems.
The Department offers B.Tech. (Production Engineering), M.Tech. (Manufacturing technology), M.Tech (Industrial Engineering and Management) , M.S. and Ph.D. programmes.
State-of-the-art laboratories are available in the areas of Machining, Forming, Welding, Casting, Robotics, CIM, CNC, Mechatronics, Modeling, Simulation, Ergonomics, Tribology, Composite materials and Operations Management.
Many research papers have been published in journals and conferences. More than 90 Ph.D. degrees were awarded through research guidance by the faculty of Production Engineering. The department offers engineering consultancy in the areas of design, manufacturing and resource management.
Job Prospects
Graduate engineers find various employment opportunities in production firms both in private and government sectors. Industrial and manufacturing engineers are in great need in manufacturing industries for the smooth execution of their instrumental manufacturing industries and industrial automation units. Engineers with higher degrees and experience can work in top levels in the industrial/management field with attractive remuneration and incentives.
Industrial and production engineers can seek employment in various fields such as armed forces, railways and other government departments as well as in most PSUs. Most of the jobs in this field are supervisory or managerial where critical decision making skills are tested time and again for the smooth performance of the industry. Professionals in this career can also opt for teaching jobs in universities and colleges.
Some job titles: -
Ergonomist
Plant Engineer
Process Engineers
Quality Engineers
Industrial Managers
