M.Tech in Product Design & Manufacturing
It aims to impart creative ideas for product design. It focuses on the ability to apply quantitative skills and models for robust design of products and processes. It covers structural, ergonomic and aesthetic design of products by creative, analytical, experimental and numerical approaches.
The program mainly focuses on Product Design and Development,Product Data Management, Robust Design,Product Life Cycle Management, Simulation and Modeling of Systems, Optimization Techniques, Product Planning and Marketing, Design for Manufacture, Finite Element Modeling, etc. Students have opportunity to work in the areas of Product Life Cycle Management, Product Design and Development in association with the on-going research projects of the faculty members sponsored by agencies such as DRDO laboratories, ISRO, AICTE, DST and other agencies.
Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Industrial Engineering and Management/ Industrial Production Engineering/ Automobile Engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering by securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate. The admissions are through central counseling on the basis of merit in PGCET or GATE.Students are trained with facilities like Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Laboratory (Windchill 9.1), Computer Aided Design (CAD) Laboratory (Pro-E, Unigraphics, Solid Edge), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Laboratory , Advanced Nanotechnology Laboratory, Advanced FRP Laboratory.
Students have placement and internship opportunities in Kennametal Widma Machine Tools, Hycom Engineering, Ace Designers,GE Healthcare, Ingersoll-Rand, Robert Bosch, Toyota, etc.
The program is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka. The program is aimed at a set of activities needed to bring new product and technologies to the marketplace. It encompasses activities spanning the entire product life-cycle, starting from identification of need, through design, manufacture and end of useful life.
