M.Tech in Software Engineering

About the Programme:

The course is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. Software Engineering involves application of specialized knowledge and skills to develop different kinds of large, complex software systems. Most challenging problems in industry and commerce are associated with software development with a set of best practices that can be used to develop better performing and more usable software.

Topics covered include Software Engineering concepts, Object-Oriented Design and Programming, Project Management, Software Development Process, Advanced Databases, Component-Based Software, Networks and Advanced Software Design with Java, Webservices. 

The project/dissertation prepares students to work in association with industries and expose them to the most recent developments and students will have an opportunity to improve practical skills, so that they can plan and conduct complex systems development projects to meet customer needs, and integrate software solutions into an evolving business environment.Courses are delivered by experts in the subject, and include an intense teaching in classes, practicals, and group work. Students also get an opportunity to work in laboratories set up by industries.

Eligibility: Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech/AMIE degree in CS/IS Engineering by securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate. However in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Group 1 aggregate percent of marks in qualifying examination should not be less than 45%. The admissions are through central counseling on the basis of merit in PGCET or GATE. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for scholarship through AICTE.

Infrastructure: The department has Software Engineering Lab to support the program and students can work on Database Management Systems, Software Testing, Advanced Algorithms, Unix System Programming Labs. Major softwares include Matlab, Visual Studio, Selenium, Open STA.

Areas of Research: The students will get an opportunity to participate in projects related to, but not limited to: Software Engineering, Software Architecture, Data Mining and Warehousing, Mobile Computing, Soft Computing, Natural Language Processing and Pattern Recognition.

Placement Opportunities: Companies like IBM, TCS, Mphasis, Infosys, Wipro, Honey Well and many more offer internship and placement opportunities.
