M.Tech in Tool Engineering
M.Tech in Tool Engineering was started in the year 2008 in the department of Mechanical Engineering. The program is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka .Tool Engineering program involves in Design of Dies, Moulds, Jigs and Fixtures, cutting tools and Press Tools. It aims to build the skills for tool design relevant to both metals and plastics industries. It also covers design of gauges and measurement systems for quality assessment.
The program covers practical subjects such as Design of Jigs and Fixtures, Design of Press Tools, Die Casting Design, Plastic Moulds Design, Design of cutting tools, Advanced Plastic Processing Technologies, Metrology and Measurements, etc. Students have opportunity to work in the areas of Design of Moulds and Dies, cutting tools and extruders in association with the on-going research projects of the faculty members sponsored by agencies such as DRDO laboratories, ISRO, AICTE, DST and other agencies.
Eligibility: Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Industrial Engineering and Management/ Industrial Production Engineering/ Automobile Engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering by securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate. However in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Group 1 aggregate percent of marks in qualifying examination should not be less than 45%. The admissions are through central counseling on the basis of merit in PGCET or GATE. A few seats are also available under sponsored and Management quota. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for scholarship through AICTE.
Infrastructure : The students are exposed to various practices in:
Metrology Laboratory, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Laboratory (ANSYS, LS-Dyna, Abacus), Computer Aided Design (CAD) Laboratory (Pro-E, Unigraphics, Solid Edge) Mould Flow Analysis Laboratory, Advanced Foundry, Advanced FRP Laboratory (RTM, Screw Extrusion, Filament Winding, etc)
Major Project Areas: There are ample opportunities to get involved in projects listed below but not restricted to:
Design of Injection Moulds, Design of Blow Moulds, Design of RTM Moulds, Design of Press Tools, Design of Jigs and Fixtures for Manufacturing and Assembly, Design of cutting tools and gauges.
Placement Opportunities: Students have placement and internship opportunities in GE Healthcare, Ingersoll-Rand, Kennametal Widma Machine Tools, Hycom Engineering, Ace Designers, Robert Bosch, Toyota, etc.
