Quality Assurance:An Institute Par Excellence

VIT University, established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. The University is headed by its founder and Chancellor, Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government. In recognition of his service to India in offering world class education, he was conferred an honorary doctorate by the West Virginia University, USA. Sankar Viswanathan, Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam are the Vice-Presidents;Dr. Anand A. Samuel is the Vice-Chancellor.

CAMPUS AMENITIES:

The campus is a self-sufficient enclave with black-topped, well-lit roads. Its facilities include a Canteen, Nescafe, chat and Bakery Food Courts.

V-Mart is a multipurpose shopping mall. It stocks a variety of student needs from mattresses, clothing and accessories to greeting cards.

Standby power generators are provided in the Institute and Hostels. Bus facilities are available for the dayscholars.

The Indian Bank branch is available in the campus with ATM facility.

CLASS ROOMS

In VIT, Chennai, all class rooms are with hi-tech equipment that enables faculty to facilitate their teaching–learning process. All rooms are provided with LCD projector, with dual-purpose sliding boards (White board and Green board) and excellent sound system.

GYMNASIUM

The Institute newest facilities for students include two gymnasia, one exclusively for men, and one exclusively for women. A central multi-facility piece of equipment enables several enthusiasts to work out at the same time.

Women students have a 4-station multi-gym of their own. Both gyms are spacious and well equipped with modern facilities.

ADMISSION OVERVIEW

Teaching at VIT Chennai is structured around seven schools of study. A student should register in one of the schools, depending on the degree/programme he/she is interested in pursuing. Research labs are also part of the schools, encouraging inter-departmental collaboration and opportunity for students to participate in exciting research projects. The campus offers five undergraduate programmes, twelve postgraduate programmes and two integrated programme. In addition to full-time/part-time Ph.D., M.Tech (By Research) Degrees in Engineering and Management Disciplines, Ph.D., M.Phil in Sciences and Languages, are also offered.

Placement:

VIT University has been a consistent topper for several years in the list of campus placement records among private institutions in India. It is proud that its graduates are highly rated by employers from industry and commerce in the private and public sectors. Offering information, advice, guidance and support for job-seeking students is considered a primary responsibility at the University.

The Placement and Training Centre is provided with a well-equipped conference training room and separate, well-furnished rooms for interviews and counselling.
