JEE topper's success mantra - Learn how to crack JEE from 2017 Toppers

Kalpit Veerwal, 18, was a sensation last year when he not only topped the JEE mains, but entered his name in the Limca Book of Records, as the first student to achieve a perfect 100 score.

He now studies computer science at IIT Bombay and vouches for thorough studies. “By now one must be through with NCERT as these not only make the base of JEE mains, but also prepare you for JEE advance. It is time to revise the notes to have a grasp over all the formulas,” says Veerwal.

How one reads the question paper makes all the difference. “Take the first few minutes to access the question paper and try to attempt the easy questions first. Do not try to attempt all the questions or multiple questions at one go,” he says.

As the exam is on April 8, lakhs of students across India are dealing with stress. Kalpit knows the example of these few days. “The last few days are when you put the best efforts. Practice as many sample test papers as you can and go through the notes you created for yourself,” he says.

While he stayed away from social media while preparing, he now runs a Quora account and a Facebook page to help peers get through the exam stress. “I have always believed in using social media constructively. I try to bust stress and give as many tips as possible to those preparing for JEE,” says Kalpit.

One year down, Veerwal believes that there is more to life than just academics. “Now, the idea of topping the exam is just a fond memory. It keeps me motivated but hasn’t changed me hugely.”

However, he is not the types to go easy on his routine. “I do not believe in the concept of ‘chilling’ just because we have entered college life, however, I have started following some hobbies, like learning guitar. I have performed at few college festivals too,” he said.

“While my main focus is still academics, I have voluntarily become the class representative and am trying to take part in activities which will increase my communication and teamwork skills for a better career growth,” said Kalpit and advices his juniors to develop hobbies in free time for a holistic development.
